Where can you find royalty free stock video for your projects at no cost? Right here. Here is a list of websites that provide royalty free videos that you can use on your website, in your own film project or online video.

Stock video footage for free is hard to find. But we have found a number of websites that provide nice quality video footage at no charge. Please read the license agreement at each website. There may be some restrictions on how you use the stock videos. Also, they may require that you attribute the video to the website or author of the video.

If you do use a video from one of the websites listed it would be nice if you contacted the author of the video and let them know how you are using their video.

If you need free stock footage or motion graphics take a look at www.videvo.net all free and some pretty decent stuff

Editor Note: The first row of three videos on each page at videvo.net link to video sites that charge a lot for video usage. But the rows following the first row are the free videos hosted on the site.

This list needs updating - mobacks isn't even a site, it's just a links portal. The only ones here that is worth visiting is www.motionbackgroundsforfree.com and as someone mentioned before me www.videvo.net

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for the comment. You are correct. Mobacks has turned into a landing page with sponsored links. So I removed it. Thank you for letting me know. I checked the other links though and they all are working for me and have free videos if I follow my instructions. However, movietools.info seems to be down sometimes. So I moved it to the bottom of the list.

This is a great resource. I found www.motionelements.com a treasure trove. The site is great as it offers more than just stock footage and animation as they also have templates for After Effects and Motion (which I wanted to try).

Videoblocks is neat too but when I realized it was a subscription model, I backed out. I dislike subs, I prefer getting things (free or paid) on a per need basis when it comes videos.

I find free stock footage is a bit of a compromise. My overall favourite is Revostock as it's a good compromise between price and choice. Here are my top 5 paid stock video sites:

Gr8 cheers for this, appreciated unfortunately it hasn't helped with my project, Stock images want $199 for most of the breakdancing images not $30-$50 The archive site is confusing as to whether any of the vids can be used in a project or not, most dont have any licence terms whatsoever and/or come from some tv collection, which i wouldn't think would allow clips to be used. On a few of the sites you mentioned I've contacted people to ask if its ok to use the clip for my project but nobody ever replies. So bit disappointed , but it was still good of you to put these sites up, i'm sure it helps some. so thanx :) xxx

Mama Chill,

Thank you for your comment. You mention that stock images want $199 for image. My article does not link to sites that charge for images. You may be clicking on ads on the websites, which is very easy to do unfortunately. As I stated in bold in some of the descriptions, when you do a search sometimes the first row shows images that link to pay for sites such as istockphoto.com or shutterstock.com. But the rest of the search rows are free images.

For example if you search for "Break Dance" at pixaby.com the first row of images link to shutterstock which is a different website. But the next rows are free images and the license plainly states that they are in the public domain.

I also found a free video at stockfootageforfree.com by searching for "break dance". Here is the link:

Jeff,

Great list! Would you mind adding my site www.beachfrontbroll.com to your list? I offer (at the time of writing this) almost 200 completely free to use HD stock footage clips. All of the files are hosted on Archive.org and they are a simple "Right click, save" to download. You also have your selection of either a H264(.mp4), PhotoJPEG (.mov) or Windows Media (.wmv) depending on what NLE your prefer.

Great site! We are looking at having a YouTube explanation video on our business website Advocate Bristol would we be allowed to use these free clips?

24. Posted By: Jeff - - April 20, 2015, 11:01 am
Hi Tim,
I don't make the videos. I just provide links to sites that have the royalty free videos. So you will have to check on each site on the rights for each video to make sure they are free for commercial or business use.
