Internet Tip # 10 - Where to watch Television online

Updated 1/30/08: Has full-length episodes of a few ABC Family shows such as GREEK, Grounded for Life, Kyle XY, Wildfire, Slacker Cats, Lincoln Heights, Sweet Valley High, 7th Heaven, Dance Fever, Three Moons Over Milford, Kicked Out, Life With Louie, Eek the Cat, Back on Campus, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Switched and Falcon Beach and full-length ABC orginal movies

The video quality is good, but if your bandwidth isn't high enough (which can happen if the Internet is busy), then you can't watch in full screen size.

Another irritating thing is that after a commercial plays you have to click a button to continue watching the episode.

AOL was one of the first web sites to show full episodes of many old sitcoms and TV shows. In fact, they have so many shows to watch that it is hard to navigate through all the categories. I think the best category to start in is television: http://video.aol.com/video-category/television/67. Sadly though they are trying to charge for some videos.

The menu system is a little confusing, but you can find episodes of the above shows and more. The video quality is good but there is no full screen video yet.

Updated 12/24/07: Hulu is a new website featuring tons of free TV shows. Here you can watch full-length episodes of old TV shows and old movies. This site uses Realplayer to play the videos. The video size is pretty small unless you have a television hooked to your computer or you subscribe, which is $14.95/month.

The biggest problem with the videos is sometimes they look like they come from an old video tape that has been played too many times.

Right now they have a link to watch "To Kill a Mockingbird" with Gregory Peck. Some of the old TV shows they offer are the Andy Griffith Show, Alfred Hitchcock, Bonanza, Dick Van Dyke Show, and more.

UPDATED 1/30/08: Fox finally has full-length episodes of some of their TV shows. It is just in a hard to find place. Fox's normal video site just shows a bunch of clips. But this one (at myspace?) shows full episodes of Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, The Moment of Truth, House M.D., 24, Bones, The Loop, Prison Break, Standoff, Anchorwoman, 'til Death, American Dad!, Drive, Hell's Kitchen, K-Ville, Talkshow with Spike Feresten, Family Guy, Back To You, Are you Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, the Simpsons, Nashville, MadTV, Kitchen Nightmares, King of the Hill.

The only drawback is you have to install a video player. But it is quick and plays in the web page.

The fullscreen button is almost better than most websites now. It works instantly and fills up the whole screen!

Click on an icon labeled All Shows then you can click and watch full episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants, Just Jordan, The Fairly OddParents, Ned's Declassified, Mr. Meaty, Zoey 101, Jimmy Neutron, Unfabulous, Danny Phantom, Catscratch, Let's Just Play, Invader ZIM, Angry Beavers, Just for Kicks, The Wild Thornberrys, iCarly, Drake and Josh, Rugrats, Avatar, Hey Arnold! and more.

Fast-Forward doesn't seem to work at all and Rewind doesn't work very well either.

Yahoo! usually just has clips, but I listed it here because sometimes they have full episodes of specials or premieres. So it is good to check out every once in a while.

The video is kind of dark and when you go to full screen it is kind of grainy.

Updated 2/11/2007: Streamick.com does not offer video on demand but it is one of the best streaming video sites. It includes playback of high quality streaming video sites. Under the category of Entertainment it has good quality sites including Fox, NBC, Gametap Cartoon Network, Globetrekker TV, BigPond TV, Galaxy Cartoons. Under Sport it has EuroSport, ESPN Starsports, Fox soccer Channel, WCSN Sports (Live Global sports including swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, skiing and more), Hockey TV, Sail.TV and more. Under Music is has MTV Uber, E-Music TV and more. Under Cinema it has Maxx-xs Movie Trailers, ReelGood TV, Moovee TV and more.

Peekvid is an interesting site. It shows a list of a few episodes from different TV shows. The quality is not very good because the videos are played from youtube.com.

As of 3/4/2007 peekvid.com is working again. However, take note that there are many irritating pop up ads now!

Retrovision Internet TV is a great site. As of 2/16/2007 Retrovision.tv now displays videos on demand.

It uses www.dailymotion.com to play most of the videos, which has a little better quality then youtube.com so this website has a little bit better quality then peekvid.com. Full episodes of many TV shows including Dark Angel, Battlestar Galactica, CSI, Friends, Hercules, House, Robin Hood, Seinfeld, Smallville, Stargate, Studio 60, That 70s Show, Two and a Half Men, and Who's Line Is It Anyway.

I would rate the content quality higher but many of the links are often dead.
