Potato Bug

The Potato Bug, also known as the Jerusalem Cricket is not poisonous but can deliver a painful bite. They claim these guys are non-aggressive, but I don't believe it. They act pretty mean. Cat's will sometimes play with them and kill them. Birds will also eat them.

This potato bug was hibernating under a log in November. I guess I should not have woke him up.

Resist the urge to kill these guys. They are not harmful to humans, and I am told they rarely bite. They will eat a variety of food like bread, vegetables including potatos, fruit and meat and small insects. They may even help reduce the number of pest insects that eat crops.
